Importance of Akshaya Tritiya




Akshaya Tritiya is one of the auspicious days in Hindu mythology. Today in order to get a blessing from Goddess Lakshmi everyone has to pray goddess by doing abhishekam with cow milk enchanted with srisuktham. Goddess Lakshmi will be blessing their children in the form of Ashta Lakshmi (eight forms). She will not just provide wealth but also provide all kinds of fortune like knowledge, health, food, life, children, etc. Because she blesses with all these fortunes it is said to donate to others is considered to be good on this day. Every person has to donate some fraction of his earning to others in need. Whoever donates gold on this day they will obtain immense blessings of the goddess. Today Indians pray with a gold coin which is embedded with goddess Lakshmi picture on it, we pray by chanting with srisuktam along with ashtotara anamavali and offer naivedyam. Later this naivedyam should be distributed with others in the form of annadhan (donate food). If this is done then goddess will show akshaya form (never-ending wealth) to you, here wealth means all kinds of wealth. Today Sandal also plays an important role that is why if you perform gandhabishekam to Lord Vishnu you will obtain special blessings.


Hindu mythology says that if you perform certain tasks on special days you will obtain special blessings rather than doing regular offering or doing rituals. During Vaishaka month it is believed we be blessed if we pray to lord Vishnu with Krishna Tulasi (Basil tree). During Akshaya Tritiya, if we pray to lord Vishnu with Tulasi leaf we will be blessed with unlimited wealth. Also during this month, we need to wake up early morning and pray Ravi/ peepal tree by offering water to it. This will also satisfy our ancestors. Also praying Cow and rubbing over its skin with our fingers by touching our nails is also said to give you best results. If you offer cow to a poor person then you will be blessed with Lord Krishna.  During this month if you perform regular Shiva Abhishek then you will be get rid of graha dosha and will be blessed with rains to your farms.
