Many of us can’t resist having delicious foods. There is nothing wrong having healthy food but nowadays we are shifting towards fast foods and junk foods which is not only filled with spicy ingredients but also bringing unnecessary health risks.
Our ancients clearly mentioned not to eat more than 2 times a day in Taitireeya Brahmanam. The time interval between two meals is considered to be fasting and you get benefits of fasting. While having food we need to eat sitting towards the East.
Eating facing towards East will increase our life, if you face towards the south then it is said to increase respect, the north facing will help you in fulfilling your wishes. Also according to Vamana Purana and Vishnu Purana, it is said not to face towards the west and north. Our ancient texts say its best to have food facing towards the East.

Thumb rules of Hindu eating habits:
- Never eat sitting on leaves or iron tables.
- If you are wishing to attain monetary benefits use pupil leaves, Gigantic swallow wart (jilledu) banyan, babul tree or Indian beech tree leaves.
- Always sanyasis (who leave everything even all kind of relationship) should eat in bastard teak leaves and lotus leaves.
- You need to do achamanam before and after having food.
- Before eating you need to pray food and respect each and every grain you eat.
