what is sravana pournami - Importance of Sravana pounami

Sravana pournima is also called as maha sravanam, whole this month is considered to have vrathas. It is considered that this month is dedicated to pray Lord Vishnu, Shiva, and Shakthi. Whatever our ancestors and sages prescribed, we have benefits in returns for an example they said us to have ekabhukta vratam where we take food for only one time during the day and in the second time you can have fruits. Also, Nakta Vratam is also one of the famous rituals where we do fasting the whole day and consume food (naivedyam) during sunset by praying Lord Shiva.

This month is considered as dearest for both lords Shiva and Vishnu. Each day have its own prominence like on the fifth day we do Naga Panchami. Sravana is considered to have powers in its name word also is knowledge of Vedas. We have gained knowledge of Vedas from Lord Vishnu. Lord Brahma originated with from Narayana and Brahma created all gods and worlds.

When gods asked their responsibilities, Brahma replied that he would say asking his creator then Vishnu replied with magical words secretly which can be understood only who have knowledge of “Shabda”. Then Brahma replied to gods to perform yagna which was the first yagna performed under the guidance of Brahma and its name is Narayana yagna. With this yagna lord, Vishnu was pleased and said that even you gods have to get satisfied by yagnas and protect worlds. Earth consists of creatures that have the knowledge, our ancestors performed yagna's and obtained boons and wishes from gods. The same thing was said in Mahabharata


“Saha yagna prajashustva purovajap prajapatim” as Brahma prescribed how to perform yagna he became vidhatha. After telling the responsibilities of each god, they were sent to their places. Then Brahma started chanting Vishnu, and then lord appeared for the first time by showing his magnificent form which has four hands with shanka, chakra, and book with meditation posture. He was glowing like a diamond such way that light emitting during the new moon.
