Ladies and sashtanga namaskara

Why should not ladies do sashtanga namaskara?

Normally when males do sashtanga namaskara (sleep on the floor facing towards the ground to take blessings), all eight parts, their chest, forehead, two hand, two legs and both eyes of the body touches the ground.

But when a woman does the same thing, their belly also touches the ground, where they have parts which are responsible for giving birth. People believe that there might be a sign of bad things to have happened.

This is the only reason all ancient scripts prescribe women not to do sashtanga namaskar. They prescribe to do bowing on their knees; if possible they can bend their spine and do namaskar.

Why do the bride and groom put jeera and jaggery on their heads?

In Hindu marriages we find bride and groom put a mixture of jeera and jaggery on their heads. We believe that once this part is done 90% of the marriage is completed. Normally this is done while changing mantras which is said to bring wellness and to remove ill effects on our body. It is believed that it makes the new couples live with a strong relationship as we find a strong bond between jeera and jaggery when combined. In the Hindu context, it is the first touch between bride and groom during the marriage.
