Why should we eat after our parents

Image
Why should we eat after our parents finish their food? India is said to be the land of Vedas. Our parents give birth to us and protect us from all events. They are considered next to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi. If we eat food after their consumption then it is considered to be Naivedya (offering to god) or else it is considered as demons food. Why do we say a women spoils by travelling and men spoils when not travelled? In olden days there are no instruments which give us knowledge. In order to gain knowledge about how to lead a life, we used to send our son to go out of the village and gain knowledge. Once you come out of the cage called fathers hands you will experience many factors like how to live and move with others, cunningness, what is good and bad, intelligence, smart work, how to escape and solve problems, justice etc.. Once you are acquired how to lead a life in the real world by travelling and exploring life factors, we used to marry the son and giv

Importance of Pradosha Pooja

Image
Importance of Pradosha Pooja Pradosha or pradosham will fall on the 13th lunar day of every month also called as tyayodashi. Pradosha is considered as the auspicious time before and after sunset. It lasts for 3 hours, during sunset it’s between 4.30 pm o 6.00 pm. This pooja is closely connected with the Hindu god Lord Shiva. Whoever does fasting on Monday or during pradosha and visits Shiva temple after sunset wearing rudraksha and applying vibhuti and worship Lord Shiva will get relief from sins and attains moksha. During this period of time gods from all heavenly bodies come to earth and perform Shiva pooja. During pradosha if we perform abhishekam then we will be blessed with boons. In Abhishekam panchamrutham has its own significance. Panch (five) + Amruth (nectar) which consists of milk, curd, honey, ghee and sugar. Milk – Long life Curd – Good children Honey – melodious voice Ghee – Moksha Sugar – Removes enmity. Mantra to be chanted before going to sle

Why do we Offer Rock Salt to Lord Subrahmanya Swamy

Image
Why do we offer rock salt to Lord Subramanya Swamy When we visit different temples at different places, we find different procedures are followed at that temple premises which make us pleased to follow and perform those rituals. When we go to Subramanya Swamy temple, we find rock salt is being placed at the back of “dwajastamb”, long pillar coated with copper and brass, embedded with different god symbols. Reason:  Salt belongs to ocean god, Lord Vishnu lives in the ocean. When lord Kumara Swamy is stuck with marriage proposals, goddess Parvathi askes suggestion to Vishnu, Lord closes his eyes by seeing Kurama Swamy. He finds beautiful ladies “Valli Devasyena”, here Lord Vishnu is projected to assume father-in-law and performed the marriage of Lord Kumara Swamy.  Devotees who are stuck with marriage proposals or have marriage problems should put rock salt in a pot placed behind dwajastamba. They will be blessed with immediate marriage with the best partner. Also, we need

Lemon Diya For Durga During Rahu Kalam Along With Mantra Chant

Image
Lemon diya for durga during Rahu kalam along with Mantra Chant We find different kinds of rituals performed in temple premises, whenever we visit goddess temples that too Shakti Mata temple, compulsorily during the period of ‘Rahu’ we need to light lamps on lemon (extract juice and fold in the opposite direction and place cotton on skin of lemon) along with kumkum, jacket cloth, dhakshina (offering like money) and tambulam (beetle leaf along with banana and betel nut). Then after we respect other ladies assuming they are the forms of the goddess (Punyastri) and offer tambulam. If we find “Sri Chakra” Archana is being performed in the temple, kumkam offered by the person who such complicated archana needs to be applied on our forehead by chanting “Bindu Trikona Kaashtavatara yugaloka vatra vruthha yutam vasudala vruttakaladala vruttatremahegrakam bhaje”  We will be seen by the goddess and attain blessings. Even our ill fortune will be erased by application of tilak.

Why Tirumala Sri Venkateswara Swamy Footwear Is Eroding

Image
Why Tirumala Sri Venkateswara Swamy footwear is eroding? Whether you observed Tirumala Sri Venkateswara Swamy footwear or not they are big in size. You might also hear they are getting eroded along with time. People and priests believe that Sri Venkateswara Swamy has abundant love towards her wife Alamelu Manga Devi. After the temple is being closed, the lord wears his footwear and get down from seven hills to Alamelu Manga Devi and returns back to his position by the time of suprabhatam. On which side should wife reside along with his husband? Many of us believe that the wife should always be towards the left side of her husband. But our sastras doesn’t insist it happen always. During the time of performing pooja or while you are offering to someone then wife needs to be towards the left of her husband. But during ‘kanyadhan’ and ‘vigraha pratishta’ wife needs to be on the right side of the husband. According to Sastras, during the creation of human beings, Lord

Importance of Vadapappu during festivals

Image
Why do we do vadappapu during festivals? Normally during festivals, we cook a variety of sweets and snacks. Due to heavy sugar levels and oil content in these recipes, our stomach struggles to digest what all we eat. Vadapappu and panakam (a drink made from jaggery) will sooth our stomach and helps in digestion. This is the reason why we offer it to god and consume. What is the rule of the matching bride and groom? According to Vedas, before a match is considered we need to check the hierarchy of father to 7 levels and hierarchy of mother to 6 levels. We need to perform a marriage between the two parties who don’t have any blood relationship. Also, we need to take care of ‘gotras’ where marriages should never be held in same gotras. In other words, marriage is a process of taking bride in presence of both the family members upon an agreement that groom shares all his happiness and obeys all kinds of Dharma’s equally

Significance Of Ganesh Nimajjan

Image
Significance of Ganesh Nimajjan During the season of Vinayaka chavathi , all Hindus perform pujas to Lord Vinayaka by installing large idols in their town. In all mandalas, Lord Ganesh is worshipped for a period of 10 days starting from Bhadrapada Shudha Chaturthi to the Ananta Chaturdashi. We perform special pujas by offering laddu as naivedyam. Previously we used to install Ganesh idols only in temple premises and perform pujas. But during independence, Bala Gangadhar Tilak requested Hindus to install in their streets and performs pujas grandly from then we celebrate Vinayaka chavithi grandly by performing dances and playing music. However grandly we perform pujas, after nine days celebration we immerse the idol in the nearby water body. This is done because, in order to install an idol of the god, there should be yantras belonging to the deity. Also as the idol is made of clay and other ingredients the shape of the idol changes. If that is the case it is considered

Why Do We Apply Turmeric Powder To New Clothes

Image
Why do we apply turmeric powder to new clothes and then wear? If we have observed our ancestors do not know about jeans or other fabric clothes. Also applying turmeric powder to new clothes’ is observed from our ancestors. In olden days there were no mills and clothes were weaved manually. Before weaving clothes, starch prepared from flour is applied to the thread, which attracts bacteria and other disease-causing germs. Wearing those clothes may cause skin rashes and other diseases. As turmeric powder has anti-bacterial property, our ancestors prescribed us to apply turmeric powder on both sides of the new clothes. Also, turmeric powder is considered for wellness. What is meant by controlling our senses? In the epic of Mahabharata, there was a battle between gods and demons. Arjuna helped gods in the battle, impressed with his bravery and courage, gods respected him in many ways. On that night heavenly angel named urvasi, came to Arjun and asked him to fulfill

Why Water in Paatala Ganga in Srisailam is Green

Image
Why Water in Paatala Ganga located in Srisailam is Green Once upon a time king named Chandragupta fought many battles for years and returns back to his kingdom with the joy of victory. Among beautiful ladies in his palace, he sees princess Chandravati and falls in love with her. In the later part, he gets to know that she is his daughter, still, he wants her. Seeing his father behavior Chandravati goes to the forest area of Srisailam and starts praying Lord Shiva. Chandragupta goes even there and tries to molest his daughter. Lord Shiva appears and curses him to become “paccalabanda” (greenstone) and lie in paatala Ganga. Upon pleading, he says he will be free from his curse in Kaliyuga when Lord Vishnu comes down to earth and does bathing in this paatala Ganga. Why don't we find lady purohit in temples? While installing god/ goddess idol in a temple we perform certain rituals and install them by chanting mantras and putting yantras. By doing so idol gets immense

What to be seen after wake up

Image
What to be seen after wake up Many of us think that our day going to kick start with goodness or bad based on what we see immediately after we wake up. If we see a person who gained knowledge of Vedas, sumangali (female whose husband is alive and who is considered to be good), cow, fire in homa or yagna is considered to be good. People also say seeing their parents is also considered to be good as God created them as he cannot look at each and every living being at the same time. If we see a river, ocean or lake we can get rid of our problems. This is the reason why Maha rushis and saints build their cottage near to a lake or river. Seeing curd/ yogurt, mustard seeds, ghee and mirror are considered as a bad sign. Similarly, if we see our face in ghee then it is considered that we can live healthy for a longer period. What are the benefits of Laughing? Laughing increases the heartbeat by which our blood movement improves. If you laugh for at least 10 minutes, you can

Who heard Hanuman Chalisa first?

Image
Who heard Hanuman Chalisa first? Tulasi Dasa Goswamy wrote Sri Rama Charitamanas. When Sri Rama Charitamanas was sung by Tulasi Das Lord Hanuman used to come. As we all know that where ever lord Rama name is chanted or sung his song, Lord Hanuman will be there. Once when Tulasi Das finished singing Sri Rama Charitamanas all people left but one old man was left behind. He was enjoying the pleasure of the song. Then Tulasi Das touched the toes of the old man, Lord Hanuman who took the form of the old man showed his original form. Tulasi Das was filled with joy by seeing Lord Hanuman original form and started singing sloka consisting of 40 padyas. It is known as Hanuman Chalisa and was first listened by Lord Hanuman himself. Colour combination of clothes while visiting temples: When we are visiting the temples of Lord Shiva, Goddess Lakshmi and Saraswathi we need to wear white clothes. When we visit Goddess Parvathi and Lord Vinayaka we need to wear red colour clothes.

If we see him from the north gate then it is believed that we get punyam. People believe that if we visit him first on this auspicious day and have a wish in our heart then they get fulfilled. What Are The Benefits Of Giving Aarthi

Image
What are the benefits of giving aarthi? In India, we find giving aarti not just in houses, we give it in temples, occasions when a child is born when a bride enters the house and many other situations. Whatever the situation is if we give aarthi there is a health secret behind it. If there is any occasion, we find people crowding in a place; similarly, we find it in temples. Because of this, our surroundings are filled with impure air and there is a chance of bacteria and other harmful germ growth. By burning camphor, many of these harmful bacteria and germs get destroyed. We get protected by airborne diseases and other contact diseases. As camphor melts when burned, we pray to god that even our faults and sins should get melted and we take aarti by touching its presence to our eyes. Why shouldn't ladies leave their hair left without tying? According to black magic, if a woman leaves her hair free then it is a welcome to sign to ghosts. It becomes easy to acquire

Time to be spent for bathing

Image
Time to be spent for bathing One should at least bath for half an hour, but due to a busy life, many of us cannot spend time bathing. One should spend half an hour at least once a week for bathing. First, we need to wet our body with four mugs of water then apply "sunni pindi" (a mixture of green gram powder, rice powder, Bengal gram dal powder). Then do the regular bath. Once you are finished, you need to clean all your body parts with a clean towel or else that may lead to skin diseases. Our private part doesn’t get proper air, so bacteria grow rapidly. It’s recommended to clean them properly. According to sastras, when it comes to female, it is recommended to bath without any clothes, whereas male should wrap any cloth.  If you bath early morning around 4 -5 A.M, then it’s called muni(sage) bath, if its 5-6 A.M then god bath, 6-7 A.M then its human bath, later period of time are called demons. Types Of Punishments In Hell/ Yama Loka

Who is Vimana Venkateshwara Swamy?

Image
Who is Vimana Venkateshwara Swamy? In order to bless his devotees,  Lord Venkateshwara  left Vaikunta and came to earth. Tirupati is considered to be kaliyuga Vaikunta. Gopuram of the temple is coated with gold plate. On the top of golden gopuram having silver gates, Lord Sri Venkateshwara resides. (Silver gates resemble to show the location of the lord). Many of the devotees after having the blessing of Lord Venkateshwara come out and see  Vimana Venkateshwara Swamy  who is above the golden gopuram.  On lord Vishnu's order, Garukmanta bought  Vimana Venkateswara from  Vaikunta. You can find him on the gopuram vayuvya (north-west) direction. Lord is placed on top to give blessings for gods, birds and other creatures. As gods have different timings and they have nothing to do with our day and night timings, all the gods who exist in different worlds on earth top and core part gods can get blessings. Next time when you visit Tirumala see the foot of Lord  Vimana Venkatesh

Does Puja Performed By Non Vegetarians Accepted?

Does the prayer or puja performed by non-vegetarians get accepted? Normally vegetarian food helps boost their reproductive organs. It also gives you mental peace. In order to get God's blessings, you need mental peace and devotion, which can be easily obtained by vegetarian food, which is why many dieticians prescribe to add vegetables to your diet. When it comes to non-vegetarian food, it reduces our longevity. Researchers proved that people who are vegetarian live long and live healthy when compared to non-vegetarians. If we consume nonvegetarian food during the festival and auspicious days our mind may be compelled towards bad habits and may have little behavior which resembles demons. Most of us lose our common sense that without concentration or devotion what is the point in performing prayer? If you can control your senses then puja performed by any mankind is accepted. Lord always sees your devotion not what you are offering. Even if you are bowing with empty

From Where Did Bilva Patra Tree Originated

Image
From where did bilva patra tree originate When Sri Maha Vishnu along with his wife started doing meditation for Lord Shiva, bilva patra/ bael tree originated from the hands of Goddess Lakshmi right hand. Pleased with the prayer done by Maha Vishnu, Lord Shiva appeared and blessed with the boon to protect the universe with his mystical powers. In Sanskrit it is also called as Sri Tree, this tree is being prayed by gods in Swarga (heaven), Mandara Mountain and Vaikunta. Bilva leaves are one of the liked items of Lord Shiva, you can pray to Mahadev on any day. If you pluck the leaves on Monday then it should be used only on that day, it’s not like flowers pluck on one day and use for future use. If bilva leaves are dry or are being plucked two-three days back they should not be used for Shiva prayer. If you do circumambulation around bilva you will get rid of all kinds of doshas and lead a happy life. By circumambulation around the tree people who don't have a child w

Why Tirumala Venkateshwara Swamy Hands Posture Is Different?

Image
Why Tirumala Venkateshwara Swamy hands posture is different? All those devotees who have visited Tirumala to have the blessing of Lord Venkateshwara might have wondered why lord’s hands are like that. If you have noticed lord hands are positioned in such a way that they are seeing land. The meaning for that posture is: all the devotees who come to seeking lords blessing and who say lords legs are their place to worship, will not be suffered from difficulties. He will always be with them and help in overcoming difficulties and show the proper path to reach their destination. If you have noticed you will see the same thing in Sri Venkateshwara Suprabhatam. Next time when you visit Tirumala see carefully his "apadamastakam" and never close your eyes until you leave his presence. It is believed that once in a life you need to visit Tirumala so that you can get free from all sins and attain moksha. Importance of Karthika bath: During the month of Karthika,

Who said the word "Janani janma bhoomischa, swargadapi gareeyasi"

Image
Who said the word "Janani janma bhoomischa, swargadapi gareeyasi" Lord Rama wore a human body and lived as a legend, suffered all kinds of emotions like an ordinary person. After the death of Ravana, he entered Lanka along with Lakshman and Vibeeshana upon the entrance, after seeing the wealth, gold and diamond buildings, his men said  'wow it is wealthier than Ayodhya. Why don't we live here and lead our life’s'. In that situation, Lord Rama replied in a polite way saying "Janani janma bhoomischa, swargadapi garreyasi" Which means mother and the place we have born are greater than heaven. Why did goddess Sita put grass leaf as a boundary while talking with Ravana? Because she treated Ravana equal to grass Women should not talk a person who is occupied with lust Married women and Pativrata female should not talk with another male. Goddess Sita covered her face and didn't want Ravana to see her face Previously Lord Rama co

Why should we wash our legs before entering temple?

Image
Why should we wash our legs before entering the temple? Even after having a bath at home, we normally wash our legs once again before entering the temple. This is because before entering and after leaving the house we wear slippers. According to sastras, we need to leave our slippers outside the premises of the temple, as land is one among pancha bhootas, we stand on it. As the lord is the king of all pancha bhootas, we pray in our self that we are coming to take your blessings. We need to wash our legs from the front and back so that it is cleaned well. Along with legs we need to wash our mouth three times by splitting water.  "Oh, lord! Our body, tongue, and mouth have been cleaned, we have come to take your blessings" please bless us. Some of us also say we need to clean our hands because we use our hands while removing our slippers.

Why should we do head bath before going to temple?

Image
Why should we do head bath before going to temple? As we all know after doing head bath we keep our whole body clean, always our heart suffers from many feelings like wishes, angry, lust, anxiety, ego etc.. We don’t have the power to clean such feelings that is why we do minimum duty of cleaning our whole body and visiting temple for lord’s blessings. Here head bath resembles god that as we have cleaned our body and please forgive our sins and give us mental peace. If crow shouts, do relatives come? Years back when there is no proper communication medium like mail, phone, and letters. We use to send our communication with the help of trained birds. If a new bird is recognized by a crow when they start producing sounds. Listening to its sound we use to imagine that someone has got some communication in their village. With that image, we used to think that there are relative’s coming to our house. Similarly if at all a crow dies and falls in front of us, we shou

How does Vaitarani River Look?

Image
How does Vaitarani River Look? According to puranas, Vaitarani River is 100 yojna wide and is located in yamapuri/ hell. You don't find any water; it is filled with blood and fuss. People who do sins in this word are being punished in that river, it is said there are crocodiles and snakes in that river and their bite is more painful. Whoever closes their eyes and does not recognize what is right and wrong does many sins in this world. All those are punished very cruelly without any mercy. People shout with pain and suffer reminding their sins. There is no one to rescue us, which is why Hindu saints say not do sins, even though we may escape punishment in this world but we cannot escape from the eyes of God. According to Garuda Purana, if sinners are thirsty they are given boiling oil. Even if we are granted permission to have new human life, their sins are borrowed to next life and they are being punished to suffer by having diseases or handicapped. That is why we

Why do we say the word "Punyaniki pothe Papam yeduraindi" In the story of great Mahabharata, Paila asks his shisya (student) Udanka to go to Poushya maharaja (king) and bring karnabharana as his guru dhakshina (offering). Upon his master's word, he goes to the king and conveys his master’s wish. King agrees to his wish and asks to have lunch as the guest is Brahmin. Importance of bathing and its variants

Image
Importance of bathing and its variants Bathing doesn't mean pouring two mugs of water in a hurry and coming out. Some of us feel that we completed bathing even without proper cleaning of the skin. That’s not the way. Actually bathing in the ocean is considered as the best one among all as ocean water contains saltiness and salt is considered to clean many impurities in our body. Next variation is bathing in river water. Waking early morning and bathing with river water gives you relief from many skin related diseases. As river water is said to originate from mountains and flows through rocks and caves touching many herbal trees and in the forest, it accumulates many kinds of herbal extracts which has good medicinal properties and healthy. --> At last, variation is a home bath . Why do we make Attulu on Atla Taddi

Image
Why do we make attulu on Atla Taddi Normally on Ashwayuja bahula thithi is an auspicious day for all ladies. On this day ladies make attulu (plain bread type). When they make this attulu there will be the formation of holes, ladies pray to lord Parvathi Devi saying a number of holes should resemble those many years of livelihood relationship with her husband. For girls who are not yet got married pray to goddess to bless with a handsome husband and beautiful children. Along with plain bread women also like to put Mehendi on this auspicious day.   Why do we say “Dhairye Sahase Lakshmi?” We see many kinds of people around us they can be categorized based on their courage. When it comes to the completion of a particular work/ task given to them, we can divide them into three categories. People check few points and swing to and fro in order to complete the task and ultimately they don’t even start the work.  People start work with energy but when they find obstacles o

Ladies and sashtanga namaskara

Image
Why should not ladies do sashtanga namaskara? Normally when males do sashtanga namaskara (sleep on the floor facing towards the ground to take blessings), all eight parts, their chest, forehead, two hand, two legs and both eyes of the body touches the ground. But when a woman does the same thing, their belly also touches the ground, where they have parts which are responsible for giving birth. People believe that there might be a sign of bad things to have happened. This is the only reason all ancient scripts prescribe women not to do sashtanga namaskar.
